Gokinjo Hiro was in charge of color scripting Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine animation sequence, and released a still image of the Sukuna hand signs & a glorious detailed Malevolent Shrine, so we know JJK Team wanted/prepared to include this iconic art of Sukuna's Domain Expansion. Due to the lack of time, it wasn't included in the DE sequence. Maybe this image was the final product they just couldn't get done, or maybe in the process of being animated but too unfinished to include?
Placement in the anime vs. manga (link to Sukuna's Domain Expansion sequence)
Sukuna's manga panel is when the narrator explains cleave/dismantle, the radius of his DE, & how it was just outside Megumi's reach so he was safe❤️ Maybe animators thought the placement would be weird since it's also right before we see the normal civilians get caught in the DE. In the anime, they showed the destroyed cityscape when the narrator explains how Sukuna's DE works "it doesnt use a barrier, its like an artist painting in the sky without a canvas" (0:21-1:00) Ideally, it would have been amazing to see, even as a still frame, just after we see the white skulls of the domain.
I feel like the unfinished product would have been okay if it looked super nitty gritty? Just thinking about what could have been since this is an iconic shot & his DE is super detailed we don't see it again until sukuna v gojo. I'm just contemplating what happened that caused them to prioritize other parts vs abandon this scene. Maybe bc we already saw it in S1? Oh what could have been if MAPPA wasn't so evil & greedy with impossible deadlines, accepting intense projects with ridiculous timelines, and inhumane treatment of workers.?? Maybe there will be a fan-animation including this scene in the future?? Thank you so much to JJK Team & animators for pouring your heart & soul into this.❤️
