All games published to Roblox go through our moderation systems and are given a clear content maturity rating. To be part of Roblox Kids and Roblox Select catalogs, games undergo additional reviews. Before publishing games for younger users, developers must ID verify, secure their account via 2-factor authentication, and purchase a Roblox subscription or pay a one-time refundable publishing fee. Before games are made available to Kids or Select accounts, we put them through real-time evaluations to analyze gameplay and assess reports from users 16 and older.
We check for appropriate content maturity labels, and do not allow any games that include social hangout or free-form drawing features or that feature sensitive issues. At launch, Roblox Moments (where users share clips of their gameplay) will not be available for Kids or Select accounts. Social media links have never been allowed in chat, now we’re taking that one step further. At launch, social media links will only be shareable or viewable by age-checked users 16 or older—that applies across user profiles, game detail pages, Community pages, and the Creator Hub.
Users who haven’t completed an age check cannot chat on Roblox, regardless of their age. While we will continue to use self-declared age to place users who haven’t yet completed an age check into a Kids or Select account, these users will not have access to chat—or to the full Roblox experience. Once a user completes an age-check, they will be placed into the appropriate account type, per the table below.

Where available, users can chat only with users in their own or similar age groups or with Trusted Friends, a special designation for people they know and trust. Text filters and chat rephrasing are in place to help keep chat age-appropriate, and all chat is monitored for child exploitation.
With Roblox Kids and Select accounts, we’re expanding our age-based settings and excited to help families understand what their children have access to at different ages. Parents who link their account to their child’s can access a suite of Parental Controls to help customize their child’s Roblox experience.
Parents of children 5-8 can use Parental Controls to allow in-game chat. If allowed, chat will be available only through text and only with users in their own or similar age groups or with Trusted Friends, a special designation for people they know and trust. Text filters and chat rephrasing are always in place to help keep chat age-appropriate, and all chat is monitored for child exploitation.
Until their child turns 13, parents can check their friend list, block or report anyone they don’t want connected to their child, and approve or decline their child’s Trusted Friend requests. Parents can also set screen-time and spend limits for their child until they turn 13. Until their child turns 16, parents can change chat settings and allow or block specific games.
